Andrew is a Patent Attorney in our Electronics and Software team and is based in our Leeds office. He joined Appleyard Lees in July 2013.
Before joining the company, Andrew completed a PhD in the School of Computing at the University of Leeds. His research was in Natural Language Processing – the Artificial Intelligence subfield which combines linguistics with computer science – and involved employing machine learning techniques to automatically identify sets and their elements within texts. His research was also published in the proceedings of two international conferences. Prior to that, Andrew graduated with a first class BSc (Hons) degree in Computing, also from the University of Leeds. As part of his undergraduate studies he spent a year working for two multinational computer consultancies, giving him a valuable understanding of the practicalities of design, implementation and deployment of software on a large, commercial scale.
