David is a Partner in both our Trade Marks and our Chemistry & Pharmaceuticals teams. He is based in our Halifax office.
David has an extensive Trade Mark practice working for clients in all market sectors, including individuals, SMEs, large businesses, and multi-national corporations. David has extensive experience before the UK Trade Mark Registry and the EUIPO (the European Union Intellectual Property Office), including in contentious proceedings such as oppositions and appeals. David also has experience in appeals before the Appointed Person here in the UK, and has assisted at the General Court of the Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg.
David’s Patent practice covers a wide range of subject-matter and he has extensive experience working in prosecuting applications before the European Patent Office.
David joined Appleyard Lees in 2002 and became a Partner in 2005. Prior to 2002, David worked in private practice for a London-based firm, starting in Patents in 1995 and Trade Marks in 1996.
David is qualified by examination in both the Patent and Trade Mark areas. David is qualified to act before the UK Office, the European Patent Office, and the EUIPO (for trade marks and designs).
David is also the Partner with responsibility for the Renewals team here at Appleyard Lees and works closely with the Renewals Manager, Karen Leung.
He is noted as ‘enthusiastic and focused’ in the Legal 500 2014 edition and that he ‘has considerable experience before the UK Trade Mark Registry and OHIM [EUIPO], including in contentious proceedings…’ in the Legal 500 2015 edition.
David has been named as a double IP Star (a star for trade marks and a star for patents) by Managing Intellectual Property for a second year running (2016 and 2017). He was commended for delivering “exceptional service”.
