Support for in-house attorneys
At Appleyard Lees we have years of experience in helping in-house IP departments.
We have drafted and prosecuted hundreds of patent applications for in-house IP departments in the past ten years, in numerous technical areas. We have also handled many EPO oppositions and appeals and ex-parte oral proceedings during the examination stages. We have handled large assignment recordal programmes and numerous due diligence tasks. We have provided a locum attorney on several occasions to cover maternity, sickness or recruitment shortages, or to provide technical expertise in a particular area. Our work has included substantial trade mark and design work.
We can work on-site or externally. We have usually been used as the primary work producer but we have frequently been used to provide an independent, external, viewpoint on specific matters, such as oppositions and infringement assessments.
Appleyard Lees has several attorneys who previously worked in-house and are very familiar with issues that in-house attorneys often face, but private practice attorneys sometimes don’t, such as IP landscaping, competitor analysis and departmental budget issues.
We believe that our success with this type of work is because
- we have the professional skills to win the confidence of R&D and IP professionals
- we are flexible and can adapt to our clients’ working practices
- we have the personal skills to fit in easily without hand-holding
- we can communicate well with a wide range of the people, and tailor our messages accordingly
